Leadership Training

Leadership training is a two workshop series design for both Indigenous youth and managers. The goal of this series is to bridge cultural understanding between Indigenous youth and their future employers while also focusing on leadership skill development critical for building the next generation of leaders.
Workshop One
The one-day youth leadership workshop is a full-day event designed to bring youth from surrounding First Nations together with potential employers.
A small group of youth take part in planning, organizing, and co-facilitating the workshop, ensuring that the youth have a say in what activities, topics and people are included. Participants take part in leadership, self-confidence, and team-building exercises throughout the day. They learn about goal setting, short and long-term planning, circle teachings and power. Central to the learning is reflecting on lived experiences and existing wisdom and knowledge. This workshop is grounded in the belief that community members and youth already have gifts and assets.
Workshop Two
The second workshop is for managers. Partnering with Band Administration and other management to co-develop and co-design a one-day leadership workshop that is tailored to the needs and interests of managers. Participants engage in storytelling, relational accountability, and learn the importance of approaching the community and their work from an abundance lens. The workshop focuses on helping managers understand their personal and team assets so they can better support their employees. Also covered is the importance of self-care while leading, understanding power, team building, and creating action plans that the managers can use with their teams in the workplace.
