
Indigenous Workplace Learning Circles (IWLC)
Indigenous Workplace Learning Circle (IWLC) helps learners, people new to the workplace, and people returning to work to build skills necessary for success at work and in everyday life.
IWLC approaches Skills for Success training at an introductory level to assist learners no matter their readiness or literacy level. The program uses an informal delivery model which focuses on creating comfort for the learner. The sessions build on the participants’ strengths and incorporates traditional culture and language with employments readiness skills training to build confidence and skills for work. It can be used as a stepping stone for employment, further education, and trades.
Session topics are chosen and adapted by the participants in the group with the facilitator guiding the flow of knowledge shared amongst group members. Materials are adaptable to a variety of learning needs within the group and care is taken to create a safe space for resistant learners. Skills for Success are carefully embedded in experiential activities, which address all learning styles.

Uncovering the nine Skills for Success, discovering your skills and building on traditional skills

Interview practice and resume building

Identifying personal learning styles

Succeeding at work and at home

Workplaces, workplace culture, and overcoming obstacles to employment

Team building and conflict resolution

Positive communication and listening skills
-
Time management

Intended Audience:
Indigenous employees or those looking to enter the workforce who need support to develop Skills for Success.

There is a modest fee for participants this program.

Sessions are offered online, access to a computer and internet is required.

How to Access:
This program is offered by the Further Education Society of Alberta (FESA). You can learn more or register here.
Employers can request in-person or online programs for a group of their employees; fees vary based on number of participants, travel costs, etc. If you're interested in customized group training please contact FESA at info@furthered.ca.

Expected Results:
Participants will build the skills necessary for success in the workplace. This includes collaboration, effective communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, understanding workplace culture, listening, and problem solving.
